Our Trainers

CLIVE COX

Clive Cox trains at Beechdown Farm Stables near Lambourn thus enjoying both superb private training facilities and the proximity of excellent local services such as world class vets and farriers.

2009 was hugely successful for this up and coming trainer with 51 winners capped off in stunning style with Jimmy Styles winning the prestigious Ayr Gold Cup under Frankie Dettori.

There were many pleasing results in 2008 including Miracle Seeker's win in the Lingfield Oaks Trial, she then went on to be Clive's first classic runner in the Oaks and followed that with a Group placed effort at Goodwood. The speedy Pearly Wey produced back to back wins in the Stewards Sprint at Goodwood whilst Dunelight added yet another Listed race to his winning tally.

Since moving to Beechdown in 2000 Clive has trained Royal Ascot winners, Group and Listed winners in the UK & abroad and has become famous for his big handicap winners. Beacon Lodge was Clive Cox's first Group race winner, victorious in the Group 3 Mountgrange Stud Stakes at Newbury in October 2007.

ED MCMAHON

Ed, the son of trainer Bryan McMahon, started his career at about 2 years of age when placed upon his father's horses that were being trained at the time. Being brought up with them from such an early age meant that by the time he was 11 years of age he was riding work on a regular basis. After leaving school he worked as Bryan's assistant trainer and also rode as an amateur having just over one hundred rides and thirteen successes under both National hunt and Flat rules.

Ed was assistant to his father for over 20 years so he gained a vast amount of experience prior to taking out his licence. In his first five years of training he has amassed over £900,000.00 in prize money with wins in Group & Listed races. Indeed 2010 was a bumper season with Temple Meads & Astrophysical Jet both winning Group races impressively.

Bryan had his training facilities at Woodside Farm, but in 1994 the opportunity came to purchase Horsley Brook Farm near Lichfield. In the first instance the gallops were installed and fields turned into grass gallops, whilst over the next few years the Listed barns and cow shed were converted into stables, with further facilities still being added to this day. It is a fantastic set up & one with which we are delighted to be associated with.
